Intention in this process

Committed to our vision and the values and beliefs of Nanabijou Childcare Centre alongside the  the fundamentals of the Reggio Emilia Principles the following outline is our orientation process and ongoing professional learning for new and existing staff. Revisiting and reflecting on the Image of the child, educator and family. How does this look in our day to day practice?  Building a community of learners through relationships:  restructuring our thinking on professional development.

Session 1

Session 1 includes:

Session 2

Although there are many similarities between the role of the educators in North America and in the municipal preschools in Reggio Emilia, there are several significant different ways the role looks in North America which we will de-construct as apart of ongoing professional learning for new and existing staff.  In reviewing the role of the educator/teacher we will be reflecting on all the fundamentals of the Reggio Emilia Principles.

Session 3

The Role of the Teacher as program planner changes to the role of creator of the environment as a third teacher

Session 3 includes:

  1. Connecting through Caring and Learning spaces

  2. The Environment as Third Teacher

  3. Progettazione, Environment, Spaces and Relations

Session 4

The role of the Teacher as curriculum planner changes to the role of the teacher as a co-constructor of knowledge.

Session 4 includes:

  1. Negotiated learning through design documentation and discourse

  2. Development Participation

Session 5

The Role of the Teacher as parent educator changes to the role of the teacher as a partner with parents.

Session 5 includes:

  1. Book chapter: Relationships

  2. Participation, Documentation, Organization, Assessment

Session 6

The Role of the Teacher as a listener, provocateur, and negotiator of meaning.

Session 6 includes:

  1. The hundred languages and Listening

  2. Article: The Pedagogy of listening 

  3. Book chapter: The Pedagogy of listening: The listening perspective from Reggio Emilia

Session 7

The Role of the Teacher as a supporter of the competent child.

Session 7 includes:

  1. Article: Education based on relationships

  2. Environment, spaces and relations

Session 8

The Role of the Teacher supports learning through relationships with children, families, co-workers, materials, nature and all that we encounter.

Session 8 includes:

  1. Indications 2.1; 2.2; 2.3; 2.5

  2. A Hundred Languages of Children: Chapter 4 - Our Responsibility

Session 9

The Role of the Teacher in facilitating play changes to the role of the teacher as an exchange of understandings.

Session 9 includes:

  1. The classroom through a relationship lens

Session 10

The role of the teacher changes from working primarily with individual children to working with children as a group.

Session 10 includes:

Session 11

The Role of the teacher involves working with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
